Vintage 1940s Hat - Black Straw Tilt Hat with Buttercup 。This is a beautiful black straw wide brim tilt hat from the \'40s! The short crown is surrounded by a wide brim leaving a \"cap\" towards the back, allowing perhaps a hatpin to secure the hat in a tilted position. There is an elastic band attached to the inside, which does hold the hat in place. The brim is bent so it has a wavy shape. At each side of the back, under the brim, there are two bows made of a light tan grosgrain. The top of the hat is adorned by some beautiful multicolored fabric flowers and stems. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. Label: FAUGMAN, Inc. 6 Elm St., Worcester, MA This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
